The Environmental Commission will hold an Arbor Day event at Frelinghuysen Park on Sherman Avenue in the Borough of Raritan on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon. The Commission will be giving away tree seedlings to Borough residents.
The trees are being provided by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection State Forestry Services through the NJ Tree Recovery Campaign. The Tree Recovery Campaign was established to help communities replace trees that were destroyed and/or damaged by Super-Storm Sandy.
Arbor Day is a holiday in which individuals and groups are encouraged to plant trees and are celebrated throughout the world. The first documented Arbor Day festival was held in 1594 in the Spanish town of Modonedo. In America, the first Arbor Day was held on April 10, 1872 in Nebraska City, Nebraska where on this day, an estimated 1 million trees were planted.
Please join us and receive your free tree seedlings. Guidance will be provided on how to plant and care for your trees. This event will be held rain or shine.
