Vital Statistics

This office, upon request, supplies certified copies of non-genealogical vital records of all births, deaths and marriage/civil unions where the event took place in Raritan Borough. Each copy is $25.00 and $2.00 for each additional certified copy. Checks/money orders should be made out to Raritan Borough. We do not accept credit/debit cards.

Application for marriage/civil unions may be taken in Raritan Borough if either party resides in the Borough. Applications are by appointment only (908) 231-1300 ext.20. Applications for corrections to vital records may be requested through this office if the event occurred in Raritan Borough.

Entering Into a Marriage or Civil Union

A Marriage or Civil Union license may be obtained from the Registrar in Raritan Borough office of Vital Statics if either party resides in Raritan Borough. If both parties are not residents of New Jersey, but the event will take place in Raritan Borough then license must be obtained from the Registrar in Raritan Borough. The license is ONLY good for that municipality.

  • All applications are done by appointment only (908) 231-1300 ext.20
  • Appointment times are available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • The fee for a marriage/civil union license is $28.00
  • It is recommended that the application be completed at least 2 weeks prior to the event. The license will not be issued sooner than 72 hours after the completion of the application. The license is good anywhere in the State of New Jersey for 30 days once issued.
Required documents when applying for a Marriage/Civil Union license
  • Proof of Identity: Valid driver’s license or pass port or state/federal ID
  • Proof of Residency: Valid driver’s license, utility bill, lease, tax return
  • Name and Birth place (country or state): of both sets of parents (maiden name of mother)
  • Name, address and phone number of the person performing the ceremony
  • Name of the place, and city where the ceremony will be held
  • $28.00 payable in cash, check, or money order
  • Death certificate or divorce papers, if applies
  • Social Security Card or Social Security Number

If either party resides in the Raritan Borough. If neither party resides in the State of New Jersey but the event will be in Raritan Borough then you must apply there and the license can Only be used in Raritan Borough.
A certified copy of a vital record may be issued ONLY if the event occurred in Raritan Borough.
Fill out an application, photocopy your driver’s license with your current address and include $25.00 (check, money order) for first copy and $2.00 for each additional certified copy. A stamped self-addressed envelope and mail to:

1st Quarter – February 1st , 2nd Quarter – May 1st, 3rd Quarter – August 1st, 4th Quarter – November 1st. . Payments are considered received the day they are delivered by the post office to the municipal building, not by the date postmarked on the envelope. Therefore, please make sure you mail your payments and provide sufficient time for delivery.
All certified copies of vital records are $25.00 each for the first certified copy and $2.00 for each additional certified copy.
Couples wishing to register a Domestic Partnership must be same sex couples OR opposite sex couples who are both 62 years of age or older. Couples must meet certain requirements.
