Jo-Ann Liptak has been Mayor of the Borough of Raritan since 2006. She is the 4th generation of her family to live in Raritan and is the third generation in her family to hold the office of Mayor following in the footsteps of her maternal grandfather and uncle who were mayors in the 1920’ and 1930’ respectively. She is a member of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities Executive Board and the NJSLOM Legislative Committee.
Mayor Liptak has received many community awards and recognitions including The Distinguished Honoree from the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women ; The Millicent Fenwick Award for Outstanding Public Service from the Somerset County Federation of Republican Women and The Peter J. Biondi Community Service Award from the Resource Center of Somerset.
She served on the Somerset County Planning Board, the Somerset County Historical Society Executive Board, Somerset County Mental Health Board, and the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission Advisory Board. She is the author of Raritan, Images of America published by Arcadia Press. She is also the founder of the John Basilone Parade.
Mayor Liptak has a B.A. from Rowan University and an M.A from The College of New Jersey and taught at the John F. Kennedy School in Raritan until her retirement in 2002. She is the mother of one son, Joseph D’Ambola (1975-2004).
