Health and Safety Notice |
Your Mayor and Council have become aware of air pollution emission and noise problems at the NJ Transit train yard off Johnson Drive. The train engines idle for extended periods of time. This creates levels of diesel emissions that could be potentially detrimental to the health of our residents in various parts of our community. The concern is that soot and other air pollutants generated by the running train engines can potentially cause respiratory problems in our young children and in our elderly.
You may contact the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's 24/7 hotline to document noise or odor complaints at 877.WARN-DEP (877.927.6337). Complaints should also be documented with NJ Transit's Customer Service hotline: 1.800.772.2222, option 4.
Another issue of concern is the noise generated from NJ Transit trains from running a power maintenance engine (also known as a HEP engine). Assemblyman Kip Bateman and Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen and other federal agencies have been contacted to help us get NJ Transit to streamline their operations so the noise can be reduced. You may call the FRA and lodge a noise complaint at 800.724.5991.
If you have any other concerns, please feel free to contact the Mayor and Council. By working together, we will be able to protect and improve the health and quality of life for all of our residents.

Star-Ledger Nuisance? |
We have received numerous complaints about the Star-Ledger advertisements being thrown onto the right of way on the street.
While this is unsightly for our town, and a nuisance for our storm sewer maintenance, the Star-Ledger claims this is a first amendment right. The newspaper further claims that the ad’s are only thrown onto properties of those that do not subscribe to the Star-Ledger.
If you are a homeowner bothered by this nuisance, call the Star-Ledger at 888.782.7533 or e-mail them at custserv@starledger.com to tell them to stop!
