Stormwater Management

The Department of Public Works is responsible for and maintains the Stormwater Catch Basin System which is a separate infrastructure from the Sanitary Sewer Collection System.  
 
The Stormwater Catch Basin System collects rainwater and directs it to the waterways through catch basins and outfalls whereas the Sanitary Sewer Collection System directs sewer wastewater to the treatment plant.
 
The Borough’s Stormwater Catch Basins are identified with markers:
 
    Remember, if it goes down there, it will end up in our streams, lakes, and rivers affecting our wildlife and drinking water.

Stormwater Regulations
 
“Stormwater pollution is one of New Jersey’s greatest threats to clean and plentiful water.” 
 
In an attempt to reduce the number of pollutants that enter our water system annually, the Borough of Raritan has adopted several ordinances to prevent and control storm water pollution.
